13th Annual State of the States Round Table

NEFA is pleased to host the 13th Annual State of the States Round Table. Proposals are now being accepted.

State of the States Round Table
April 7, 2023 from 1:45pm - 3:15pm

State of the States Committee Co-Chairs:
Dr. Henry Tran
Dr. David Buckman

State of the States Co-Facilitators
Dr. Tyrone Bynoe
Dr. Randall Vesely

To ensure the round table experience is beneficial to all participants steps have been taken to create a template that focuses discussion points around four specific areas. Participants are encouraged to structure submissions around these four discussion points. Submissions should be limited to a strict two-page maximum.

  1. Funding Priorities for P-12 and/or Higher Education
  2. Changes to Funding Formula for P-12 and/or Higher Education
  3. Pressing State Issues Affecting P-12 and/or Higher Education Funding, particularly in the Area of Education Human Resources/Capital Issues
    • Please note state responses in particular to issues related to staffing (e.g., shortages), compensation (e.g., retirement and pay) or investment in  workforce professional development and evaluations
  4. Exclusive to P-12: What are the alternatives to traditional public school offered by your state? What does the trend in funding look like for these alternatives?
  5. Total dollar amount for your state's per pupil expenditure (be sure to exclude local and federal funding)?
  6. Allocation of State dollars and percent of the State Budget for P-12 and HE (just a figure and percentage)

* We recognize that the legislative session will be not finished in most states by the time of the conference. We anticipate the presentation will be a work in progress. The final manuscript will be submitted after the sessions.

On the day of the round table, participants will be divided into small regional groups to ensure all have an opportunity to share what has been prepared around these four discussion points. All attendees of NEFA 2023 will have electronic access to all submissions.

To participate in NEFA’s State of the States, please send a request for your state using the "STATE REQUEST" link below. The committee will confirm that the state of your choice is still available, or will suggest another state. Presenters residing in the state of their choice will be given preference.
